The story goes that the Dutch liked nutmeg so much that they were willing to trade one of their colonies (Connecticut) where nutmeg does not grow, for an island (Aruba?) where it does grow.  Thus, Connecticut is known as the nutmeg state because there is no nutmeg here…

I sometimes have weird thoughts that seem to trouble me less if I write them down.  Since I teach mathematics in the nutmeg state, many of these weird thoughts tend to involve math and/or nutmegery.
